The Erbil Urban Development Master Plan was developed under the concept of a Sustainable City as part of a JICA-funded project for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Yachiyo Engineering Co., Ltd., as the main consultant, engaged Abacus as a subcontractor to conduct the required traffic surveys in Erbil.
Car Counting and Classification: This work was carried out to determine the vehicle numbers and their classification through a network of cameras in both cordon and screen line, then all recorded videos proceed in advance software.
Cordon and Urban Street Interview: As part of updating the master plan of Erbil, we conducted both cordon and screen line interviews, and specified questions asked from the driver such as origin, destination, the purpose of the journey…etc. Then all data proceed and become a database for later traffic volume modeling.
Bus and Taxi Survey: All bus stations in Erbil were surveyed in two days, this included at the terminals and inside the bus, and a tenth of taxi journeys was monitored over two weeks all their data was recorded and proceeded for later use.
GIS: As part of the Erbil Master Plan, our team carried out GIS-based data preparation to support planning and decision-making. This work included digitizing newly exisiting road networks and land parcels that were not available in the provided GIS datasets, as well as reviewing and validating attribute information for accuracy and consistency. The resulting GIS layers formed a structured and reliable spatial database, supporting subsequent analysis, scenario development, and master planning activities.
Mobile App Development: As a part of surveying, we developed some apps to remotely collected some data such as taxi trips data and bus journeys all boarding and unboarding data.
